Data Strategy for a National Law Firm
A National Law Firm

About this project
Our Role
A rapidly expanding national law firm aimed to drive growth through technological enablement. However, their initiatives were constrained by a fragmented data architecture and inefficient data flows resulting in duplication and errors. MXA was engaged to develop a comprehensive data strategy, prioritising data needs and delivering practical recommendations for uplifting technology infrastructure, workforce capabilities, and data management policies.
The Challenges
Issues included fragmented integrations and inefficient data flows, resulting in duplication and errors that hindered the ability to generate reliable business intelligence. The firm's optimisation initiatives were constrained by these foundational data challenges.
Our Approach
MXA adopted a business-centric approach, starting with the firm's strategic priorities for the next 12-24 months and working backward to define data requirements. We collaborated with stakeholders to prioritise key use cases across client reporting, finance, legal operations, business development, and people insights.
We performed extensive data discovery, mapping core systems and reviewing data structures to identify points of data friction. We prepared holistic recommendations covering people (skills and roles for data stewardship), processes (methods for governing data quality), and technology (a roadmap for enhancing the data environment).
Results
The engagement provided a clear, actionable data strategy designed to enable optimisation and growth. The roadmap established a foundation for reducing data duplication and systemic errors, expected to lower operational costs by improving data accessibility and reliability. The strategy was well-received, and MXA's engagement was extended to support the solution architecture design for a core system replacement.
